Etsy Insight: Tips for earning a Etsy’s Pick badge
Hi there! My name is Mary, and I’m on the Merchandising team at Etsy. Today I’m excited to share an inside look at what goes into the coveted “Etsy's Pick” badge, which buyers can see in search results and on the listing page.
Etsy’s Picks are items that have been chosen by one of our merchandisers (a.k.a. our style experts) from shops that have shown quality, reliability, and style. The badge helps buyers easily identify special and unique items, so they can shop confidently knowing your item represents the best of Etsy. To learn more about this criteria, read our Help Center article.
This year our team has more than tripled the amount in the Etsy’s Pick collection, resulting in even more opportunities to highlight qualifying listings to buyers on the site and in our marketing! Plus, we’re committed to adding even more Etsy’s Picks badges to listings in the months ahead. Etsy’s Pick badges are reviewed daily to ensure that the quality and reliability factors are maintained, and items highlighted may change over time.
With so many incredible items and shops on Etsy, you can help your shop stand out and improve your chances of getting featured on Etsy—while instilling confidence in potential customers—with these tips:
- Focus on photography: Striking photographs are a direct way to catch someone’s eye. Keep it clean—take crisp, in-focus photos in a bright, uncluttered environment with plenty of natural light, and avoid using watermarks in your images. Placing your products in context can also be a great way to fit your product into larger trends and lifestyle stories. Read 7 Essential Types of Product Photos to learn more.
- Make your shop easy to find: Before they can get featured, your items must get found. Use search-friendly titles, tags, and descriptions to make it easy to find your shop and items in Etsy search. Choose straightforward, descriptive titles that contain the most important words at the beginning. Use all available tags, selecting words and phrases that people are likely to search for when looking for your item. Check out Keywords 101 for more tips.
- Ensure an excellent customer experience: The “Star Seller” badge is a way for Etsy to reward shops that consistently offer an excellent customer experience in the areas we know are important to buyers: responding to messages quickly, shipping and tracking, and review ratings. Shops with a Star Seller badge also have an increased chance of being featured in Etsy buyer marketing. You can track your progress towards Star Seller in your personalized dashboard, and earn badges for each of the main criteria areas along the way.
- Ship smoothly: It’s important for buyers to know when their order will arrive. Update your processing times to accurately reflect your workflow and set clear expectations with shoppers. Shipping labels on Etsy also help automate important steps in the fulfillment process. When you buy a domestic or international label on Etsy, we’ll fill in the buyer’s address and automatically mark the order as shipped. Tracking is included on most services, so shoppers can rest easy knowing when their orders will arrive.
- Avoid policy violations: Familiarize yourself with Etsy’s Seller Policy and House Rules to make sure your shop is compliant. For more tips, read our full list of requirements for being featured.
- Strive for 5-star reviews: Glowing reviews let any buyer who visits your shop know that tons of happy customers have come before them—and inspire confidence when they’re deciding whether to make a purchase. Read our article How to Get 5-Star Reviews for tips on boosting your star power.
Incorporating the suggestions above will help put your listings in the best light in buyers’ search results and beyond. For even more guidance, read Tips for Getting Featured on Etsy.

·1 year agoI have seen Etsy picks marked “handmade” when another shop here on Etsy is selling the exact same thing.
Another Etsy pick is marked hand made even though a partner business makes it - and that partner is not listed in the listing.
Etsy pick should not be given to items whose shop owners are violating Etsy policies. By giving these shops the “Etsy Pick” badge, not only is the shop owner lying to customers but Etsy is endorsing these lies. This erodes the Etsy brand.

Also shops without good feedback or star seller.

·2 years agoI see non star seller shop with loads of Etsy picks, that sells one of a kind products but the one listed is not available so he sends other similar looking items.
The deal is to have the same picture listed and for one of a kind items is impossible, because there arent 2 the same.
If one if my one of a kind items gets and Etsy pick, the listing and the pictures will dissapear after i sell it.
But others relist one of a kind items wich tricks the system and they get to keep the Etsy Pick.

·2 years agoHi, great article!
I thought I understood the qualifications for achieving the Star Seller badge, but after reading your article I'm not so sure. You said that "You can track your progress towards Star Seller in your personalized dashboard, and earn badges for each of the main criteria areas along the way."
I have qualified for each of the criteria, but since it is not yet 90 days from my first sale, I have not yet become a Star Seller, which is fine . . . but shouldn't I have gotten the three other badges (Shipping/Reviews/Message Responses) "along the way", as you said?
Thanks!

So it seems the picks are being chosen more from AI.

·2 years agoI see many Etsy's Picks and I can't say I'm impressed about the items. Half of them are reselling items straight from China. Also the photography is not impressive. When I read that Etsy's Pick are chosen by Etsy stylists, I doubt about their education and sharp eye.

·2 years agoIt was really awesome to get this badge.. however, another team at Etsy continues to remove my listing over and over with no explanation. It's the holiday season now, and my listing was removed last week for the 4th time this year. I've written and tried to follow up, with no response. Each day that passes is loosing crucial holiday traffic and shopping in my shop.

·2 years agoEVERYTHING listed for Etsy’s Pick badge, AS WELL AS OTHER ADVICE FROM ADVISERS, does not work and WILL NEVER WORK AGAIN.
.... everything has changed both in ETSY ITSELF and in the GLOBAL ECONOMY (ETSY allowed “China” into its territory and it produces costume jewelry instead of QUALITY MADE jewelry products, AND THE GLOBAL ECONOMY IS IN DEPRESSION and the public that used ETSY DOESN’T HAVE MORE MONEY...) ...
.....ETSY, FOR EXAMPLE, has not sold a single product of mine for TWO YEARS, AND THIS MEANS: turn off the lights and let off some steam....

·2 years agoWhy would anyone ever want an item to be an Etsy's pick? It's almost as bas as having something labeled as a best seller.
The items are basically branded for those that are looking for what to steal.
They see the badges and start copying.
Etsy then identifies these same products in the 'cheap knockoff sites' and deactivates the original seller's listings.
They tell them there is no appeal, their decision is final.
So all of a sudden someone goes from being excited because something they created got some recognition, to making posts about why their item was flagged as not being handmade and deactivated with no recourse.
Maybe it's just me, but I'm not seeing the upside to have an 'Etsy's pick'.

·2 years agoThe information it the article is good. My items may not be considered trendy. They have been sustainable for 30 years. Similar yet new patterns, fiber and colors. I meet the criteria and have been selling on Etsy for about 10 years. I actually make my items. I did a search for an item and found most items that had an Etsy pick were mass produced...even though I narrowed the search to hand woven. Some were US but imported items to sell. How does a small unique...one of a kind businesses like this one compete and be noticed? Sigh..

·2 years agoNot one mention of longevity on this site as a factor. You would think those of us here longer than ten years are doing something right?
Thanks for the tips - I can tweak my ads till the moon turns blue but I cannot compete with your choices for not really handmade in my category. I gave up on this a long time ago. I cannot compete with factory made re-sale items.
