We’re updating how average review ratings are calculated
Hi sellers,
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be updating how average review ratings are calculated on Etsy.
Soon your average rating will reflect your full review history—while continuing to give the most weight to how you’re performing today. We’ll calculate your overall rating using a recency-weighted average. That means newer reviews count more, and the impact of each review decreases by half each year—so your score better reflects your current customer experience.
Because your full review history is included, some shops may see a change to their average rating. Others may see no change at all.
We know reviews are personal, and updates like this can feel significant. This change is designed to provide a more holistic and accurate view of a shop’s performance - not to reward or penalize shops.
If you’re a Star Seller, your badge and eligibility are not affected. Star Seller criteria will continue to be based on the most recent three months of performance.
