Etsy Updates: 5 things to know for May 2024

Welcome to our monthly roundup of Etsy updates and community highlights you don’t want to miss …

1. Five Etsy sellers shared their wisdom, hopes, and shop stories at Etsy’s HQ IRL!

Five United States-based Etsy sellers participated in an insightful panel discussion at our office in Brooklyn, NY. The panel was the highlight of an in-person meeting for our marketing, brand, and member services teams. Their conversation gave our teams a special chance to learn more about each individual’s unique experience as an Etsy seller.

As part of their trip they had breakfast with Etsy’s Vice President of Customer Support & Success Brendan Mulryan and lunch with Chief Operating & Marketing Officer, Raina Moskowitz, and toured Etsy HQ—which highlighted our company culture and sustainability practices.

Thanks to Cat Hutchings of MoonLightSupplies, Gracie Raines of AptoArt, Christina Chun of ForagePaperCo, Hannah Armstrong of BadTouristVintage, and Sarah Robertson of RuntBySarah, for the inspiration, and for sharing your time and passion for small business with us!

2. Etsy’s 2024 Spring/Summer Trend Guide dropped

Our brand new Marketplace Insights report is hot off the press and covers the fresh decor, style, and gifting themes we anticipate will circulate in the coming months (think: martini pins, cowboy boots, nostalgic decor, and more). Etsy search data and wider industry forecasting form the basis of the report.

To view the full report, check out Marketplace Insights: 2024 Spring and Summer Trends in the Seller Handbook.

3. An opportunity to help make the future brighter for small business owners in the European Union

Next month, Europeans will have the opportunity to vote for their representatives in the European Parliament. Now’s the time to ensure your interests as a maker are heard, represented, and defended across the European Union for the next five years. And we’re committed to advocating on your behalf every step of the way.

In our petition, we’re calling on policymakers to help solve the challenges creative business owners like you are facing right now—and create an environment where you have an equal opportunity to thrive in the creative economy. If you’re an EU seller, read more on how you can get involved

4. Etsy’s approach to Advocate, Build, and Craft positive change

Etsy recently spotlighted two sellers in Washington, D.C. at Punchbowl News’ The Innovators event as part of White House Correspondents Dinner weekend. D.C.-based sellers Jodi Kostelnik of The Neighborgoods and Ayu Carlton of AYDRY & Co. joined the Etsy team to connect with members of the D.C. community, including journalists, business leaders, and policy makers.

Etsy is proud to advocate for our sellers’ priorities and needs to key stakeholders, and we know that when you succeed, we succeed. To learn more about how we support our seller community, check out our News Blog on Etsy’s ABC approach to advocacy.

5. Tools, tests, and tweaks
Our teams work every day to make shopping on Etsy even more fun and improve the tools you use to run your business. Check out three recent updates:

  • Etsy Payments will be available in India in June

As we expand Etsy Payments to India, we’re also making changes to domestic sales and India Payments (powered by Razorpay) for existing sellers. Starting June 3, sellers in India will no longer be able to make domestic sales in India, and India Payments will no longer be available.

Sellers in India will need to enroll in Etsy Payments between June 3 and July 31 (and have a GSTIN number) to continue making export sales.

  • Testing out giving buyers the option to request their refund via Etsy credit

We’re experimenting with a new way for buyers to get an immediate refund for their purchase–in the form of Etsy credit they can put toward their next order! With Etsy credit, buyers can shop for something new sooner. This doesn’t change anything in your workflow, you’ll process refunds the same way you do today.

We’ll see you next month with a new batch of Etsy Updates. Stay close to the Etsy Community on Instagram and here in the Forums where you can join the conversation and get the latest updates. As always, we’ll share news you need to know and other updates in the Announcements section of the Forums and in the Seller Handbook
